I will try to post more tonight,

Sorry everyone I'll visit your blogs and vote once I get to university. If you don't hear from me though vote on yours and miss mine out this week.

Header Challenge 16th February 2011 `Tracks`

The theme for this weeks challenge has been kindly set by Tom -  fishing guy and is `Tracks`.

Now many of you would think, knowing that I worked on the railway for a number of years, that railway tracks would be my chosen photo subject in relation to this theme, but, no! youd be wrong.

Ive decided to stay well clear of the railway tracks on this occasion, and so, camera in hand I went out to see what other tracks I could find.

Well one of the first tracks I came across was from my car tyres. Here they are leaving tracks in the mud

tracks-1-8

As you can see, Its been a bit on the wet side recently and as we live on a country lane tyre tracks in the mud are a common occurrence.

The roads near where we live are themselves just tracks really

tracks-1-9

Welcome to the Lincolnshire countryside!

Coming back into the house, and the warmth, after the cold damp trip around the country lanes, I decided to put on some music and realised that here was even more tracks; the tracks on a music CD

tracks-1

Here you go I've taken some close-up macro shots of the cd tracks for you.

The CD I chose even has `Tracks` in its title

tracks-1-2

For my header though this week I have gone for one of the many farm tracks around my house, one our girls frequently use to walk our dog.

I wonder what track my fellow headbangers have travelled down for their headers this week?

Its great to see the number visiting my blog growing each week. Why dont you say hello and introduce yourselves. Tell me what you like and why you dropped by. Maybe there is something  new you would like to see on my blog?  Or something Ive done in the past revisited.  Whatever the reason for the visit remember to say hi and come back soon.

Thanks for dropping by.

Header Challenge 9th February 2011 `How you see Yourself`

How I see myself has been chosen for the header theme by imac this week.

Now Im sure my fellow headbangers imac, Lanny, fishing guy and Gailsman will agree we all see ourselves in

different ways.

I see myself as being Scottish

me and flag-1

I also see myself as a proud family man

me and family-1

This was taken whilst visiting Pompeii in Italy whilst on a family holiday. Thanks for getting me around and over all those cobbles.

What you will find is that I also see myself as a photographer. Not an exceptional one but one who is constantly experimenting new techniques and visiting new places always with camera in hand.

me and family-1-3

As my friends will know Im also a bit of a techy so you will also find me surrounded by gadgets whether they be cameras, computers, phones or anything remotely technological

SAMSUNG

So as you can see, I see myself as a Scottish family man with a penchant for photography and all things technological who loves to explore and record my journeys through my photographs and blog.

But then as you can see from my header this week this is one photographer who enjoys warping that reality too.

Let me know what you think via the comments section and then drop in on the other headbangers to see what they think of themselves, just follow the links at the top of the right hand menu bar.

Header Challenge 2nd February 2011 - Cleaning

Hello all, let me start by saying, Happy Birthday Mum! I hope you've had a great day.

This weeks header challenge has been chosen by Gailsman and he has chosen "Cleaning".

Well the first thing you have to have when cleaning is a maid to do it for you...

Well chance would be a fine thing, but, not being the minority that has numerous staff to do the cleaning for me I will just have to do it myself. First of though I will need to leave myself a note of what to do so I remember.

Well cleaning might not be the most fun thing to do but, at least we don't have to lick ourselves clean...

As Garfield our cat can be seen doing everyday...

So, "cleaning" I have decided to go with our very picturesque cat Garfield cleaning himself in the garden as my header this week. I hope you like it. Feel free to leave you comments then head over to the other headbangers to see what cleaning they have done this week. Come back soon.

Header Challenge 26th January 2011 Pipes

This weeks challenge has been set by yours truly. Knowing that it was going to be posted up the day after Burns night I was thinking Scottish but for some reason I said pipes.

Now I can understand my connection and I was able to get some pictures of the good old Highland pipes

bagpipes

Ive even got photos of a whole marching band of them

pipes-1

But, knowing my fellow headbangers, Fishing guy, imac, Lanny and Gailsman that's just what they would be expecting from me.

So I decided to have a look around for some more pipes

pipes-1-4

we therefore have radiator pipes.

pipes-1-2

The pipes of the beautiful organ in the cathedral Notre Dame in St Omer Northern France, taken last summer.

Even some copper piping travelling up the wall of our house

pipes-1-5

All possibly good photographs in their own right but they still lack that extra something for the header so this week I have gone for some small pipes in fact they are straw ones.

I hope you enjoy looking around, feel free to tell me what you think in the comments section before popping over to see what my other headbangers have come up with for `Pipes`.

Header Challenge 19th January 2011 - Missing

Hi all and welcome to another Header challenge Wednesday.

Todays choice has been chosen by Lanny and is `Missing.

Now my first thought was just to put up a blank header and say the picture is `missing but I thought you might think that was a bit of a cop out.

So Ive put my thinking cap on and come up with a few ideas and hopefully a good header.

I could use the bird feeder shot in which I missed the bird

missing-1-3

Or the eggs that had been `missing` all week

missing-eggs

we had begun to think our chickens had slowed down their egg production when we found these behind a fence panel in the garden (28 in total).

Or how about the synchro pair of the red arrows, when `missing` each other on their high speed cross-over's is vitally important.

missing-red arrow pairs

Ive decided to stay with the Red Arrows for this weeks header, but a shot of one of their displays last year when they were `missing` one of their team due to illness. They still managed to put on a great show though. Can you spot where the missing arrow should be in the formation?

Oh well one thing more I am missing tonight is another 800 words for my University essay that is due in tomorrow, so I will leave you all for the moment. Hopefully I wont be `missing` for too long.

Have a wonder over to the other headbangers blogs in the mean time and check what they are `missing` this week in their headers.

Header Challenge 12th January 2011 Water

Well its header challenge time again (or a bit past it Im very late posting this. sorry everybody). This weeks theme is `Water` and has been chosen by fishing guy.

Water, well there has been a lot of that including coming through the ceiling from what looks like a burst pipe so Im afraid this is a very short post.

Here's a few pictures of some water drops for your delight, I hope you like them

Thanks for visiting, remember to leave your comments and then drop in on the other headbanger team members to see what they have done this week.

Header Challenge 5th January 2011 Squaring the circle

Now this weeks challenge was seemingly impossible. Well it was an adage for an impossible task anyway. Gailsman chose the theme for this week and he has gone with Squaring the Circle.

Now I thought I could try and re-create the mathematical problem that this saying derives from that of  the challenge of constructing a square with the same area as a given circle by using only a finite number of steps with compass and straightedge.

squaring the circle-1-2

Unfortunately I am no mathematician so this is as far as I got.

So who or what else is famous for squares and circles? Well I thought of the freemasons with their square and compasses as their emblem.

squaring the circle-1

In the end I thought of just looking for squares and circles in the same photograph

squaring the circle-1-3

This is a photo taken of the font in the Baptistery in Pisa Italy. The squares and circles to me show that this combination of squares and circles is not just the realms of mathematical scholars but everyday craftsmen and the occasional photographer too.

I hope the other members of the headbangers agree with my interpretation. Dont forget to leave a comment and tell me what you think, then drop in to see what the others have come up with this week. Follow the links at the top of the right column to see their blogs after leaving your comments of course.

Header Challenge 29th December 2010 Betwixed or Between.

This weeks header challenge is the last one for this year 2010. imac had the choice for this weeks topic and he has gone with betwixed or between as it is the week between 2 great celebrations that of Christmas and New year.

There are lots of things that are between but choosing the right one for my header is never an easy choice.

I could have gone with a photo of the magical time between day and night as the sun sets producing stunning colours in the evening sky.

sunset-1

Or back to the beauty of summer looking down the river as it travels between its banks.

river banks-1

Keeping on the same line of thought how about the bridges that span between the sides of a river, in this case the Samuel Beckett bridge which allows Dubliners to travel between one side of the Liffey and the other.

bridge between river banks-1

In the end Ive chosen photo taken at the Waddington Airshow. It shows the Lancaster bomber between its fighter escorts. This bond between these historic and illustrious aircraft is now known the world over.

Well 2010 is soon coming to a close (I cant believe the next header challenge will be in 2011). I hope you have enjoyed sharing my journeys and photography with me this year. Dont worry there will be plenty more to see in the new year.

Dont forget to leave your comments, good or bad on everything you see, good healthy criticism is the best way to grow as a photographer, and I value all your comments and suggestions.

It just leaves me to say, remember to check in on my other header challenge friends, Tom-fishing guy, imac, Lanny and Gailsman and I wish all my readers the very best for 2011, and may the New Year bring joy and happiness (and lots of photo opportunities) to you all.

Header Challenge 22nd December 2010 The Light.

Well Christmas is almost upon us so this is the last header challenge before Christmas. This week it has been my turn to choose the theme for us to create our header on.

I chose the Light. I thought it would give everyone a good scope to come up with something creative, it will be interesting to see what the others come up with.

My first thought was that I wanted to use candles as my light

the light-1

but, I felt it needed a little bit more

the light-1-3

so as it is Christmas (or very nearly) I added Jesus to the photo as he is regarded as bringing light to the world at Christmas.

Now for my header to fit it needs to be in the landscape format so I had a bit of a play adding extra candles and foliage

the light-1-2

In the end Ive gone for a shot taken very low to the ground to get the angle I wanted.

I hope you like it.

I wonder what my fellow headbangers have come up with this week for their headers.

Remember this Christmas to add the true light to your Christmas celebrations.

Header Challenge 15th December 2010 Anticipation

As most of you know each Wednesday I join some friends, Tom-fishing Guy, imac, Gailsman and Lanny to create a header based on a theme chosen by a member of the group.

This weeks challenge has been set by Lanny. She has chosen anticipation for her header theme this week.

With three kids I thought getting a picture of anticipation would be easy, but, most of the family have gone down with the flu bug over the last couple of weeks. So unless you count anticipation of getting rid of the snuffles, I dont think they were in the mood for photographs.

So I thought I would look through my back catalogue of photos to see if I had any that would fit the theme of anticipation.

How about anticipation at the start of a relay race

anticipation-1

Anticipation of a lovely new day

anticipation-1

Anticipation of childhood new discoveries

anticipation-1

But I felt that at this time of year the biggest anticipation is the celebration of the coming of Christ at Christmas. So this week I have chosen to take a photo of our nativity scene to show my families and hopefully thousands of others anticipation of the Christmas message.

Luke 2:11 "For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Saviour, which is Christ the Lord."

Anticipate and Celebrate the real reason for Christmas this year.

Header Challenge 8th December 2010 Snow.

This weeks challenge is that winter favourite Snow.

Now for a change we have had some snow already in South Lincolnshire. Nowhere near as much as many other parts of the UK but even the little we have had seems to have caused chaos. Schools have been closed though much to my daughters disgust not theirs. Even my university the Bishop Grosseteste University in Lincoln closed its campus for about a week due to the snow.

It may cause problems for many but it certainly is beautiful to look at.

winter-1-4

though I dont think our chickens agreed.

So what should I use as this weeks header?

I thought a first to go with footprints in the snow

winter-1-3

but couldn't get it to fit the full width of the header bar and I wanted something a little better.

How about

winter-1

our dog Corky in the snow but again wrong shape for the header bar.

I even looked at a photo I took of the snow as it melted from our garden table forming some very strange shapes

winter-1-2

but it was in the wrong format for the header bar so I chose a photograph taken from an upstairs window looking out across the fields of South Lincolnshire whilst the snow continued to fall.

Hope you like it and are enjoying the picture opportunities snow whilst it lasts.

Dont forget to leave your comments on my blog and then check out the other snow pictures of the headbangers, just follow the links in the right hand menu bar.

Header Challenge 1st November 2010 Wheels.

Well this weeks exciting header challenge has been chosen by Gailsman and for his choice he has gone with Wheels.

Now the first thing you may think with wheels is cars or bikes but lots of other things have wheels too.

In our house the biggest use of a wheel seems to be for the playing of Mario Karts on the Nintendo Wii

wheel-1

Im sure many of you have also used a wheel in your house (or in Pizza Hut) when you have been cutting up your pizzas

wheel-1-6

Some of you will even use a wheel to adjust your heating thermostats

wheel-1-4

and if you havent used any of those, how about Apples pride and joy the iPod with its revolutionary wheel interface.

wheel-1-5

If you still haven't found a wheel you have used in the above selection, what about looking on your desk at that mouse you are holding Im sure that may have a wheel on it

wheel-1-3

you may even be sat on a chair at that desk that has these

IMG_0443

castor wheels.

Many objects these days have wheels but one of my favourite wheels are just for watching and that is why I have chosen for my header this week a pair of Catherine Wheels (pinwheel) taken at a firework display at a friends house.

I hope you have enjoyed exploring wheels with me this week. I wonder how many wheels you can find around your homes?

Dont forget to leave a comment then drop in on the other headbangers to see what they have come up with for the Wheels header challenge.

For those of you who also noticed it was Wheels by ACDC playing on my iPod heres  your chance to listen to a great rock track.

Header Challenge 24th November 2010 Collage

Now this weeks header challenge theme has been set by by my good friend imac. He has decided he wants us to have a go at creating a collage.

Having checked, a collage is described as being, derived from the French word for "gluing". It originally referred to the physical process of gluing a number of pictures, photos or drawings onto a flat piece of paper, in order to create an artistic composition.

Well Im sure I can do that with the help of Photoshop. As for the glue well the computer has a cut and paste option  for placing your photos so there is the glue.

My first thought was a group of images, in this case flowers

flower collage

Then I thought why not be a bit more adventurous

kez collage

by turning one photo into numerous Polaroid's and then sticking them back together again.

I tried a few different ones

esther collage

some with backgrounds and some without.

Harriet Collage

I eventually decided on a photo with all my daughters in. I then laid them out and stuck them onto a virtual desk, I hope you like it.

If you want to know how I did it, leave me a request, via my comments section and I will endeavour to write a detailed explanation on it in a future blog.

Dont forget to check out the other members of the headbangers, imac, Tom-fishing guy, Lanny and Gailsman to see what collages they have come up with for this weeks challenge.
