Sony is making the grade with the introduction of the stylish Cyber-shot� DSC-T700 and DSC-T77 digital cameras with "intelligent" shooting functions.

The 10-megapixel T77 camera is Sony�s thinnest model at less than 5/8 of an inch with a 3-inch, 16 x 9 touch panel LCD screen. It features updated intelligent scene recognition technology, Smile Shutter� and face detection technologies with child and adult priority, as well as high sensitivity shooting (up to ISO 3200), eleven scene modes, and in-camera image management.

Substance and Style
While rich in technologies, style was a key factor in the development of both cameras, said Lubell. They feature a newly-developed Carl Zeiss� lens that integrates a 4x optical zoom and Optical SteadyShot� image stabilization, yet achieves a slim form factor. They will also be available in a wider selection of color options than previous T-series cameras.

Both cameras feature updated intelligent scene recognition technology that can now select up to eight different scene modes, including macro, portrait and landscape modes.

This technology also includes a new anti-blink function in portrait mode that will virtually make closed-eyed photos an �old school� memory. The cameras will automatically take two shots and then determine whether the subject(s) have closed eyes using their advanced face detection technology. They will only record images with open-eyed subjects. If both pictures have subject(s) with closed eyes, the cameras will record one and display a warning so you can try again.

Sony�s Smile Shutter technology has also been improved. It is easily accessible as a �smiley face� icon, which is now a permanent fixture on the camera�s LCD screen in record mode, and can be toggled off and on at the touch of a finger. And during smile capture, auto focus and zoom functions are available, as well as the ability to take a limitless number of shots.

Not One, But Two Photo Libraries in Your Pocket
The T700 camera (above) is ideal for anyone who wants to have what Lubell calls �bragging� photos of their kids, pets, vacation or sports highlights with them at all times.

Owing to the model�s internal database, thousands of photos can be searched in-camera by event, date, smile or face, including children and infants; displayed in calendar or chronological views; organized in folders; and shared as slide shows or fun scrapbooks.

Unlike previous models, this one allows you to store and manage images on both its 4GB internal memory and an optional Memory Stick� media card. You can maximize the number of pictures stored on the camera with the bundled Picture Motion Browser (PMB) software application and its new PC Synch feature.

This new feature lets you downsize images from full-resolution to VGA and export them back to the camera�s internal photo album. The application operates intelligently with the camera so you can shoot more photos. It will only detect, downsize and export the new shots. This allows you to store literally thousands of your favorite photos in the camera

It is also possible to export photos shot by other cameras or archived on other media into the camera.

The PMB Portable software inside the camera lets you easily upload photos or videos to popular social networking sites like YouTube� (a trademark of Google Inc.) using an internet connection with any compatible PC via the supplied USB cable. It even has pre-programmed sites in the camera.

The camera also has a scrapbook function that automatically creates simulated scrapbook pages. Now you can share, print or save your scrapbooks unlike previous models.

Pricing and Availability
The DSC-T77 camera replaces the former T70 model and will be available in brown, green, pink, black and silver in late September for about $300. The new DSC-T700 cameras ships at the same time in red, champagne gold, pink, dark gray and silver for about $400.

Nikon has added a 3.5in 'touchscreen' to one of six new digital compact cameras.

The 10-million-pixel Coolpix S60 (pictured) allows users to control all camera functions apart from the power and shutter release, via the screen, according to Nikon UK's digital camera product manager Niki Needham. Users can control AF and AE by pressing the relevant area of the 16:9 widescreen display using 'finger touch' or by deploying the supplied stylus. The screen carries a resolution of 230,000 dots.

Due out on 19 September priced �299.99, the S60 includes Face Recognition, Smile Timer with blink detection, time-lapse movies and HDMi TV output. The Smile Timer function is designed to automatically release the shutter when the camera detects a smile on the face of a subject.

Nikon's Best Shot Selector mode can capture a maximum of ten sequential shots and aims to automatically save the sharpest image. 'This is ideal for macro close-up shooting when camera shake is difficult to avoid,' explains the firm.

Features also include imaging sensor shift-type Vibration Reduction and ISO 3200 for resolutions up to 5MP.

The 5x lens delivers the 35mm viewing angle equivalent of a 33-165mm zoom.

The S60 weighs 145g (without battery and memory card) and measures around 97.5x60x22mm.

Also unveiled today is the Coolpix S710, a 14.5MP model sporting a 28-101mm lens (in 35mm terms), a 3in screen and a maximum ISO sensitivity of 12,800 (at a maximum of 3MP resolution). In stores next month priced a penny under �300, the 'premium compact' also boasts shutter and aperture priority and manual exposure options.

Nikon has revamped its S550 to reveal the 10MP S560, the key difference being the inclusion of CCD-shift image Vibration Reduction.

Meanwhile, replacing the S600 is the S610, a 10MP model which will come in a Wi-Fi version (S610c). The latter allows the user to connect to Nikon's 'myPicturetown' image sharing website, a service that also allows file storage. Both models will cost �249.99.

Nikon offers six new Coolpix digital cameras

Nikon on Thursday introduced six new models to its Coolpix digital camera line, including some with touch screens, GPS, built-in Wi-Fi and more. The new cameras will be available beginning in September, 2008.


The S60 features a 3.5-inch LCD touch-screen interface that enables you to choose shooting and playback controls without needing to use a dial or button interface. You can also use the touchscreen to lock the camera�s autofocus and exposure on a subject by touching the corresponding location on the screen. The S60 will retail for $349.95 and comes in a variety of designer colors.

The P6000 is a 13.5-megapixel camera with 4x wide-angle lens, Optical-VR image stabilization and other features. It sports support for NRW (digital raw) image format and can embed Global Positioning System (GPS) data into the photo�s metadata for �geotagging.� Look for it for $499.95.

The S610C has a built-in Picture Mail button that sends images to Nikon�s My Picturetown online service. The camera has built-in Wi-Fi connectivity, and Mikon is including a subscription to Wayport, a leading provider of Wi-Fi hotspots nationwide (Wayport powers McDonald�s Wi-Fi connectivity, for example). The S610c will cost $329.95.

The S610 is priced at $279.95. While it doesn�t have Wi-Fi, the compact camera features a 10-megapixel sensor and 4x zoom lens. It also has �Active Child Mode,� which will automatically track the movement of subjects like children and pets to help you get an in-focus picture of them. The S610 also has a 3.0-inch LCd display, in-camera red eye fix and new EN-El12 rechargeable Li-Ion battery. It will cost $279.95.

The S560 is a 10-megapixel camera with 5x lens and image stabilization. It features a �Scene Auto Selector� mode that automatically selects the right scene mode for the image you�re shooting. A 2.7-inch LCD monitor on the camera�s back has an anti-reflective coating. Other features include in-camera red eye fix, D-Lighting, which compensates for excessive backlighting, and more. The S560 will cost $249.95 and comes in black, blue and �cherry blossom� finishes.

The S710 is a compact camera with a 14.5-megapixel sensor and 3.6x optical zoom. It supports ISO up to 12800, and features new exposure modes and the new Scene Auto Selector Mode. It also has a 3.0-inch LCD display and is compatible with high-capacity SDHC cards. The S710 is priced at $379.95.

It's all about the timing
The FinePix Z200fd features two brand new self-timer modes: Couple Timer and Group Timer. Working in combination with Face Detection technology, the self-timer automatically sets off after the camera has detected faces in a frame. Cheek-to-cheek

Pentax M60 Digital Camera Introduced

After introducing a new entry level E60 digital Camera for beginners,Pentax has announced to launch its new Optio M60 digital camera. The camera sports a 10 megapixel resolution and a 5X zoom lens.

Moreover, Pentax has added �Auto Picture� function that is especially made for beginner photographers. It automatically detects the condition of the subject and selects suitable scene mode for it. PENTAX has just introduced the Optio E60, the brand's new "budget" 10 megapixel digital camera.
