Manga comics Character woman sketch, Shanghai Express project Zhu Mei. She is the main character of the story.

Facial expression sketch test. key to focus on.
1. The Eyes - Probably the most important feature for expressing a clear emotion. Utilize the eyelids and eyebrows to create your effect.
2. The Cheeks - The way they squash and stretch will affect the look and position of the eyes.
3. The Mouth - The shape of the mouth is also very important. It affects how the cheeks move and the shape of the entire face. In Manga, it can be super saturate, think Jim Carry x 100 or look at the movie the Mask. My favorite facial expression in Manga has to be Ranma1/2, I love how they play around with female facial expression.

*It's a little more settle to do it on female face then men. But I will developed the feature and make her more alive. (these sketches was done 3-4 years back, now I am on a mission to modified these.)

Manga, sketches and panel layouts, the lost project "Shanghai Express"

Manga, sketches and panel layouts, the lost project "Shanghai Express". This is a lost project of mine, I thought I will once again pick it up and continue (only has so far 4 pages, but I will remake pretty much from page 3 on...and it will be in black and white.)
So I started this like 3-4 years ago.
So the plan is that I will post all the update and video of how I did the panel and such. So it will be like behind the scene how to and stuff along with the Manga itself. The project name is, for now, "Shanghai Express."

It sets around 1910 in China, but mostly fiction with some historical ref...(maybe).
Anyway, there will also be tons of creatures, Western vampires, Chinese Zombie, magic, super-kungfu, etc. I hope I could at least finish one chapter for now. :)
*I know...i know...if any of you have follow my "Dogs of War", that one....is on a long vacation...until then.

Here are some sample pages #1 and #2 (I did these 3-4 years ago so the art didn't live up to my nowadays standard. But they are pleasant to look at, hope you like them.)


Here are some of the thumbnails and sketches planning for these two pages. I know perspective are tough, I will make tutorials of some similar stuff one of these days. You can count on it. :)

Dynasty Warrior inspired Manga style drawing Zhu Clan Warrior woman sketch. I love Dynasty warrior, but I do play a lot of Ramancing of The Three Kingdoms a lot when I was a kid. This sketch basically my character concept idea that heavily influence by the genre. Except I make it a bit more stylize.

The sketch I again used black ball-pointed pen (beause I have it right by my side). Next time I will try to find some pencil and use them. I was trying to record myself drawing with traditional medium and found that it's not that convenience since I only have a small web-cam and tiny little Sony flip. I am going to need a real camera and the proper set up for that.
But Yes, I really plan to do a pencil drawing process. It's now depending on how soon I can get the better camera and the set up.

If I have sometimes and feel like, then I will probably take it further in render and such. But for now...just a rough sketch.

No tutorial today, but a post of a sketch from my personal sketchbook. One arm warrior sketch.

This quick concept idea scribble, I sketch with ball-point pen again (Really there is no preference for me, but whatever I could find at the moment and the pen are always there...quick and decisive). Then I scanned it in Photoshop and quickly touch it up with texture and splash here and there, nothing fancy.
