Newman Hyun slaps a 12 megapixel camera on the L1200 PMP

Apart from format support and blatant KIRFage, there's usually not much to distinguish one Chinese "MP4" player from another, so Newman's L1200 PMP is quite the standout with its 12 megapixel camera. Mounted cell-style on the edge of the device alongside a flash, the cam swivels 180 degrees to take regular shots or 30fps video of your smiling face. Other features include a 3-inch QVGA touchscreen, SD expansion, non-specific AVI video support, and a variety of shooting modes and setting for that cam. Not much else is known, but at just $132, it's worth a splurge if you ever see it outside of China.

Sony Ericsson cameraphones could support gesture control

Generally speaking, the cameras that come built in to today's mobiles are less than astounding, but a recent Sony Ericsson patent application could make 'em a bit more worthwhile. The patent describes a scenario where a user could input commands by simply gesturing in front of the lens, and the phone would then be able to decode certain actions and react accordingly. Apparently, one could answer a phone (in handsfree fashion, of course) from across the room with just a flick of the wrist, and tracks streaming over Bluetooth could be controlled by waving your hands like you just don't care. Granted, users would still have to be where the handset could see them, but aside from that, the idea's not too shabby.

Cedar Electronics CDV-528

Regrettably, we can safely say that we've seen a similar mishmash before, and while we've no idea who actually finds these things worthwhile, Cedar Electronics is apparently giving it a go with the CDV-528. This handheld camcorder / PMP conglomerate boasts a 2.4-inch 480 x 234 resolution LCD, a 5-megapixel CMOS sensor capable of snagging stills and VGA-quality video, between 32MB and 128MB of internal storage space and an SD / MMC expansion slot to boot. You'll also find PictBridge support, USB 2.0 connectivity, an AV output, some form of red-eye reduction and a rechargeable Li-ion cell. Interestingly, we're not told what types of files this thing will actually support, but let's just say that's reason enough for you to avoid this like the plague, cool?

Camera History

The camera was invented by Joseph Nicephore Niepce, a retired French army officer, who made the worlds first true photograph of a scene. The camera was invented in 1826 in St-Loup-de-Varennes, France.

Niepces camera 'Obscura' consisted of two wooden boxes, one carrying a lens and the other a ground-glass screen. The boxes were connected by bellows so that the distance between the lend and screen could be varied. Also he invented an iris diaphragm which could be adjusted to vary the size of the aperture and thus sharpen the image. Also by using a sheet of paper which had been sensitized with silver chloride as the negative.

The invention of the camera has developed dramatically over the years. Such development are making the camera portable (developed first by Friedrich Risner, German mathematician), improvement in the films, electronic flash (invented in 1931 by Harold E Edgeron, American photographer), colour photograph(taken in 1861 by English photographer Tomas Sutton, also invented the single-lens reflex camera) and many more.

Pentax Camera Information

Most of my shooting is done digitally now with the Pentax K10D or the Pentax ist-D (shown at left), but I still have a soft spot for my faithful Pentax MX (below). Made in the 1980s, it is a totally manual, completely mechanical, professional-quality camera (and there are still occasions when slide film, rather than digital, is appropriate).
