Universal Roamer - classic camera
Manufactured in 1948 by the Universal (UniveX) Camera Corporation. Manufacturing cameras sucssfully to the masses in the 1930s and 1940s, the Universal Camera Corp. story was the Enron of its day (see link below). The Roamer I is a folding camera for 8 exposures on 620 film. It has a coated f11 lens and a single-speed shutter.
A basic, non-descript camera. So what make it interesting? How about famous! The Universal Roamer I is the camera used to make the famous McMinnville photos. You may not recognize the name, but you would the UFO photos. (See here and here) Joel Carpenter has added a full analysis of the photos from the aspect of does the photographers story line up with the images, adding to the work already done by Dr. Bruce Maccabee on the subject.
