Nikon D60 DSLR Review

The Nikon D60 DSLR is an excellent Family DSLR for photographers tired of the limitations of Point-and-Shoot digital cameras. It is a compact and lightweight DSLR with the performance and responsiveness characteristic of much more expensive digital SLRs.

Of all the DSLRs targeted to family use, the D60 is without doubt the best. It handles superbly and its matrix metering nails the exposure right. Performance and responsiveness are excellent. Images are by default on the vivid side, so colors are bright. Auto mode and scene modes make this DSLR an easy upgrade from point-and-shoot photography.

The only thing "missing" on the D60 is Live View. Seeing how Live View works really kludgy on most DLSRs, this is not much of a negative.

In the D60, Nikon has succeeded in bringing together all the elements a first-time DSLR user needs for capturing excellent images with point-and-shoot ease-of-use in a compact, light and comfortable body. Though other entry-level DSLRs also have similar features, it is the friendly way these features are implemented on the D60 that earns it our Photoxels Editor's Choice 2008 - Family DSLR award.
