THE risk of a few raindrops landing underneath a pop-up flash-mounted above the prism has always been a worry.
It's certainly a great place for a pop-up -- out of the way of fingers and high enough to reduce red-eye -- but the weather-seal issue is a concern.
At the launch of the new Olympus E-3 digital SLR, Akira Watanabe, the brand's deputy general manager for product strategy, popped up the flash and poured a jug of water right into the gap between the prism and the flash.
You can imagine the surprise.
The collective response from the gathered media cannot be re-produced in this publication.
The latest DSLR from Olympus is so weatherproof (they call it "splash-proof") that the punishment was taken without any harm.
You wouldn't want to take it scuba diving, but with this model there's now far less reason to fear a sudden downpour or a drink being knocked over your precious camera.
