Gabriella May, 18, studying Foundation Art and Design at Falmouth College of Arts took one step nearer to fulfilling her dream of becoming a top fashion photographer when she was crowned Young Fashion Photographer of the Year 2007 at Clothes Show Live.
Beating off competition from over 200 entries, Gabriella was one of eleven lucky finalists who saw their photograph displayed and judged at the show�s Image Catwalk. In addition to receiving the prestigious title Gabriella was also awarded receive a set of fantastic prizes including �2000 worth of prize money, �1000 worth of Nikon photographic equipment, �1000 donated to her college art department plus an internship with leading Fashion Photographer Will Whipple. All runners-up have their work displayed at the show throughout the week, and will also get the opportunity to take their own professional catwalk pictures from within the photographers� pen at Clothes Show Live 2007.
After a very successful debut year the competition, in association with Nikon, invited young photographers from across the UK aged 16-25 to use their imagination and photographic skills to capture their vision of �Cool Britannia� in 2007. The judging panel consisted of leading Fashion Photographer Will Whipple, Nikon's Group Marketing Manager Jeremy Gilbert and Gavin Brown, Managing Director of Haymarket Exhibitions Ltd.
Gabriella May says: �I am honoured to win this award and feel very privileged for my
work to be recognised. This is the first time I�ve entered such a competition and now can�t to wait to upgrade my photographic equipment and follow my passion of photography.�
Will Whipple says �I was extremely impressed with the range of ideas and how all entrants interpreted the brief. The standard was very high and I think it�s great that this competition gives young talent the opportunity to showcase their work in front of key industry figures as well as hundreds of thousands of British fashion lovers�.
Jeremy Gilbert, Group Marketing Manager at Nikon UK added, �We are delighted to be involved in the competition again this year and pleased to be able to play a part in celebrating and supporting the next generation of fashion photographers. I was extremely impressed with the level of entries. Each interpretation of the brief was very individual - the photographs look fantastic mounted at the show, plus the great prizes should really help Gabriella progress her career.�
The Young Fashion Photographer competition is part of a wider Clothes Show Live Education Bursary project. Open to talent aged 13 upwards, the bursary supports young fashion and design talent, with the objective of turning this talent into broad based ability and knowledge that delivers well-rounded proficiency at all levels.
