We are delighted to congratulate Brutus stling on his achievement. said Mogens Jensen, Head of Canon Consumer Imaging Europe. The Panda Book of the Year has proved a consistently great way of raising environmental awareness in Sweden. Given that Canon has been a major sponsor to WWF since 1998, we are particularly proud to be associated with The Kingdom of Eagles.
After years of shooting film, Brutus recently switched to digital and now shoots almost exclusively on Canons EOS-1D Mark III. During the making of this book, Canons digital cameras helped me get shots I could have never have taken in the past, said Brutus stling. In particular, they produce some amazing results in extremely low-lit conditions.
The Panda Book of the Year jury praised the books striking contribution to nature photography. In this majestic bookwe have the privilege of seeing an exposition of pictures in a dimension hitherto unknown: eagles as emblems, eagles with a soul and strong expressions, and eagles as protagonists in thrilling and dramatic photo sequences.
Set up in 1972, the Panda Book of the Year honours the years best description of nature in words and pictures. It is the second time that stling, who produced The Kingdom of the Eagles with writer Staffan Sderblom, has claimed the prize.
In recent years, Brutus stling has established himself as a world-class nature photographer. He was appointed 2006s Nature Photographer of the Year in Sweden. His book Life on the Wing was chosen as Panda Book of the Year 2006, and Penguins. The Secret Lives of the Worlds Most Intriguing Birds was nominated for the August Prize 2006. Both books have been published in the UK and in the US.
