Getting back into the fight

Olympus Imaging recently launched its new professional DSLR, which it hopes will reestablish the company as a market force to be reckoned with.

IN THE fast moving, quickly progressing world of digital photography, a lot can happen in a year. Such is the pace that this years entry-level model may outclass last years top-of-the-range model in several areas obvious benchmarks being resolution (more megapixels), performance and image quality.

So you can probably imagine how fans of Olympus DSLR E-system felt as the E-1 clocked up four years as the companys sole professional offering.

While the E-1 is still a very well-designed and superbly built professional DSLR by todays standards, it is now even eclipsed by cheap consumer DSLRs including Olympus own models in these benchmarks.

But with the launch of the E-3, the Olympus E-System range finally has a king thats fit to wear the crown. And on many levels, this is also the most important camera the company has ever launched.
