Richio answered: Yes, you are trading off two important features: The Digic III CPU chip, and face-detection technology (included in the Digic III).
The Digic III is a more polished 'brain', and it works a little faster than the Digic II (in the A710). Thus you will drain less power, and get some extra shots between battery charging. Not a great increase---perhaps 220 photos instead of 200, for example.
The face detection circuitry allows the camera to auto-focus on faces, which of course you want if you have people in the photo.
I am not saying don't buy the A710 (I have one). Both the A710 and the A570 are very fine cameras.
